And now a word from our Coach

So everyone loves basketball games, right? They are intense- with 65,000 screaming fans, the squeak of shoes on the ground, and the swoosh of the ball through the hoop. But there is one thing that can ruin a basketball game- any game to be precise- and that is bad sportsmanship. I have been to many many games in high school and now in college. I thought that the bad sportsmanship ended in high school- how wrong I was! Do we think that we are better than the team we oppose? That we are somehow entitled to win and in the process to beat their spirit and honor to the ground? Don't we realize that they are people too? Oh you didn't think they were people! Well they for sure are not robots and they aren't ghosts either. This isn't the new "angels on the court" either.
Refs. Yeah at one time or another, we all hate them and the calls they make. Lets face it people, it's their job to make the calls. There are rules to games and if we don't follow them, there are punishments. It's the same way with life. There are rules: laws, moral commandments, etc. If we don't follow them we get punished. And who is it that tells us we are punished? Or who is it that "dishes" out the punishment? Well, that is our Heavenly Father. I'm not saying that the refs are like heavenly father, but I am saying that if we can't accept small punishments at a basketball game, then how will we ever accept punishments for doing things morally or civilly wrong?
As the BYU Basketball coach said (while being very disrespectfully "booed"): "Let the players play and the ref's ref."
